Description

Join Melanie in this fun one- day exploration of acrylics and textures painting trees. You will be working on a flat surface building texture with GOLDEN pastes and gels then adding GOLDEN Fluid Acrylics. You will gain a working knowledge of the differences between pastes and gels, Fluids vs. Heavy Body Acrylics and how to add dynamic colour to your paintings. Bring several tree references to work from. Melanie will be demoing trees in various stages of development.

Audience: Level of experience recommended is Beginner with some painting experience, Intermediate and Advanced.

Supplies: All supplies will be supplied.The supplies provided will include 1 Birch Panel, GOLDEN Fluid & Heavy Body Acrylics, GOLDEN Pastes & Gels and samples of GOLDEN High Flow Acrylics.

Most supplies will be provided but if you would like to work on more canvasses/birch panels, please extras. I will also bring extra panels to purchase during the workshop. Optional Products:

  • Mark making tools (Princeton Catalyst), spatula, combs, watercolour pencils
  • 1 or 2 additional canvasses or birch panels. 12” x 12”, 24” x 8” (tall & skinny)
  • Stencils if you have. I will bring some to share.

Miscellaneous Required Materials:

  • Palette for mixing your paints
  • Spray bottle for water, water bucket.
  • Your brushes in various sizes.
  • 1 roll of Paper towels, Apron
  • Variety of photos for inspiration featuring Trees.

Don't forget your lunch, waterbottle and snack! Tea/Coffee will be provided.

Artist/Instructor/Guide

One can hardly grow up under the canvas of Saskatchewan’s “Living Skies” without feeling an intimate connection to the vast landscapes that often inspire the paintings of Melanie Morstad. As an active outdoor enthusiast, Melanie’s passion for nature is boldly expressed with colour and an emotional connection.

Melanie’s Business Degree in Marketing combined with the study of painting at the Alberta College of Art and Design, has led to a thriving career as a professional artist. She curated and implemented over 175 pieces of original art in a permanent outdoor gallery in Alberta’s Fish Creek Provincial Park. She is President of the Burns Visual Arts Society, co-founder of the Parkland Solstice Festival Society and participates in various arts organizations. As a certified GOLDEN Artist Educator, Melanie is a positive and enthusiastic mentor and has developed a loyal following of students since 2005. Her work can be found in numerous collections and galleries.
