Join host Carolyne Taylor, with a panel of three key business leaders in the city of Victoria: Kerri Milton, Downtown Victoria Business Association, Catherine Holt, Victoria Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Lisa Helps, moderated by Kerry Slavens of Douglas Magazine.
Kerri Milton, joined the Downtown Victoria Business Association as the Executive Director after three years with Downtown Penticton. With a background of entrepreneurial success and private sector leadership, combined with her direct experience in leading a business improvement association, Kerri was responisble for the management of one of the Okanagan’s largest farmers’ markets and led a major revitalization of two streets. Prior to Downtown Pentiction, Kerri was a General Manager with Landmark Cinemas of Canada.
Catherine Holt worked as a management consultant with the Sage Group 18 years before joining the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce as their CEO in May 2016. With over 1,400 members she embraces this new opportunity as a way to apply her experience as a consultant to both the internal workings of the chamber and the members. Catherine has a broad range of experience, including working as an assistant deputy minister in B.C. and as a producer for CBC.
Mayor Lisa Helps believes that it is her job as Mayor of Victoria to employ business sensibilities and community values to lead an organization that serves all of its citizens. With a transparent and common sense approach to decision-making, Mayor Helps has championed both citizen-led and local-business-led initiatives in a variety of areas. She's leading a transformation at City Hall in order to foster a more innovative, proactive and responsive culture to meet and exceed the needs of residents and the business community.
Kerry Slavens is the Editor-in-Chief of YAM magazine, Victoria’s lifestyle magazine, and Douglas, Victoria’s business magazine, published by Page One Publishing. Previous to joining the Page One team, Kerry was co-owner of Artemis PR & Design, an award-winning Victoria creative agency that served local, national, and international clients for 14 years. Kerry is a nationally published poet and fiction writer who — when she isn’t chasing a story or editing — is fiercely finding time to complete her first novel.
