Event description

Description

Sizi Yedidah Modeira lost her eyesight and suffered brain damage battling meningitis in Fall 2014. She has been severely incapicated for the last 5 years.

Meningitis is becoming more and more of an issue for the Canadian population and worldwide for reasons that are as of yet unexplainable. Meningitis is a life-threatening infection of the meninges, the layer of tissue that surrounds the brain and the spinal cord. If not treated, meningitis can lead to brain swelling and cause permanent disability, coma, and even death.

Meningitis has various causes, including bacterial infection (the most serious cases), viral infection, fungal infection, reactions to medications, and environmental toxins such as heavy metals. Sizi unfortunately procured the worst kind of it - Bacterial Meningitis. During a harrowing 24 hour period in October 2014, we battled to save her life.

Sizi is still with us today, thankfully - but unfortunately, she lost her eyesight, and is suffering daily from the after-effects of brain damage.

Caring for Sizi - having suffered this trauma in the prime of her life from ages 30 to now 35 - has been an extraordinary life-changing circumstance for our family. We have all learned so much about ourselves, about resilience, about strength and faith and enduring love.

Sizi is simply one of the strongest human beings we have ever known. Still without eyesight but hopeful about the medical interventions that the future will bring, Sizi is even stronger today than ever before. The next phase of her life will take her to her homeland of Israel, where she wishes to continue her life and pursue her dream of working in technology and becoming a founder of a online platform that helps create jobs and disburse micro-funding to entrepreneurs from global at-risk communities.

In support of Sizi and the Meningitis Research Foundation of Canada (MRFC), and in collaboration with CLAY Restaurant and FOOD DUDES - we are hosting a fundraiser on December 9th, 2019 to raise funds to financially assist with facilitating the next chapter of Sizi’s life in Israel - and importantly - to help contribute to the ongoing efforts of MRFC and spread awareness about this tragic infection that is afflicting many families across Canada.

Tickets are $150 per plate - a plate is a sumptious three course meal (appertizer, main and dessert) - and also enters you into a draw for a slew of prizes to be announced

You may also donate any amount that you wish as an alternative if you are not able to attend.

You will see options for "Tickets" if you are attending and also "Donate" when you click the Tickets tab.

If you would like to donate directly, as some have requested, then you can either send an etransfer to sizibenefitfund@gmail.com or contact Moshe or Miriam directly, by telephone or email.

This will be an evening of education, interactive entertainment, great food and drinks. We are so thankful for your support and cannot wait to see you all in December!

Thank you,

The Modeira Family
