SOLSTICE GLOW — Winter Solstice Ecstatic Dance

This Winter Solstice, we gather to move, breathe, and reconnect during the longest night of the year.

No choreography, no expectations — just music, warmth, and a magically-lit room where you can unwind, reset, and meet yourself fully.

We’ll open with a gentle grounding, flow through a curated ecstatic dance journey aligned with the Solstice energy, and close with a restful group sit to welcome the returning light.

Come dance into the new season with us.

Our shrine will honour Green Tara, a symbol of compassion, embodied wisdom, and courageous presence. You’re welcome to carry her mantra through the evening: OṂ TĀRE TUTĀRE TURE SVĀHĀ

Doors: 7:15 PM

Event: 7:30–10:00 PM

You will be led in an easeful, guided embodiment warm-up to all settle into our bodies together...and then we will boogie into the night, wordlessly and with abandon!

ABOUT ECSTATIC DANCE

ABOUT ECSTATIC DANCE

Ecstatic Dance is a freeform movement practice held in an open, compassionate container—no choreography. No judgment. Just music, breath, and your authentic expression.

There may be howling, stomping, stillness, tears, laughter, or quiet joy.You might find yourself moving in ways you never have before.

We invite you to:

  • Arrive on time and sober, with a clear mind and open heart
  • Dress to move in comfortable layers
  • Bring a water bottle
  • Dance barefoot or in socks
  • Come exactly as you are — all ages, bodies, and experience levels welcome*

*Toddlers welcome with supervision; the full two hours may be long for younger ones — feel free to reach out with questions.

Music: A curated movement journey blending tribal rhythms, downtempo bass, deep groove, organic house, global fusion, electro-folk, and atmospheric soundscapes. Here's a sample of the music we've danced to at previous Ecstatic Dances

Ecstatic Dance - Simple Guidelines

1. We Dance Barefoot

  • This allows us to connect more fully with the Ground (socks are OK)
  • If you have a physical condition or need and would like to dance with shoes, kindly do so (otherwise pls avoid shoes so as not to harm others' toes!)

2. We Dance without words

  • The majority of the dance is freeform and not facilitated
  • No Conversations on the dance floor; do express yourself vocally in any way you like WITHOUT using words: howl, shout, hoot, giggle, etc.
  • This makes it easier to be in a Meditative or "flow" State

3. We Dance as We Are

  • No: drugs, alcohol, cell phones or artificial scents;
  • No: expectations, judgements, shoulds or oughts… Just Be Yourself; With respect for ourselves, the space, and one another.
  • Honour your own body and its needs: enjoy fresh spring water, fresh air, or little breaks to sit, stretch, etc.

4 . An Embodiment Practice

  • For those looking to get the most benefit out of dance as a movement practice, you are invited to leave all thoughts off the dance floor and be fully present in your body and senses.
  • Challenge yourself to find a movement expression in every moment, even when you don't think you like the music or song ... you might surprise yourself!
  • To maintain the practice, try to stay in motion for the entire practice (it can be very subtle, such as sitting and dancing softly with your arms or rolling on the floor). See if you can keep the energy moving!

About the Ecstatic Dance Movement in the East Kootenays

After nine years of living heres—and many years studying and practicing embodied awareness at Clear Sky—I felt called to bring a full ecstatic dance experience to the Kootenays. I wanted to create something like the monthly full-moon dances that shaped my community back in Victoria. Those gatherings were full of joy, connection, play, and the simple relief of landing back in your body.

My hope is to grow a thriving, inclusive dance community here—one where 50+ beautiful humans can come together regularly to move, breathe, unwind, and reconnect.

In a world full of noise and distraction, dropping into the body has become rare but deeply therapeutic. Ecstatic dance offers a space to ground into your body, meet yourself with honesty and compassion, and rediscover the joy of being alive.

This community is built on presence, kindness, and the belief that embodiment is a doorway to clarity and freedom. I’m honoured to help create that space with you.
