Description

Songs of the Land: Tracing Global Pathways in Indigenous Music

Djavad Mowafaghian World Art Centre | Goldcorp Centre for the Arts | 149 West Hastings Street

Start time: 6:30pm

How do contemporary Indigenous musical forms connect us to the land around us, and offer opportunities to build relationships of solid arity and understanding across oceans and continents? Join us for a conversation with Yorta Yorta hip-hop artist Neil Morris (DRMNGNOW) from so-called Australia, Musqueam-Tsleil Waututh artist, storyteller and Vancouver poet laureate, Christie Lee Charles, and moderated by Jarrett Martineau (nehiyaw/ Denesuline), the City of Vancouver’s Music Planner and host of CBC’s Reclaimed, to discuss the ways song and music express deep connections to land and place.

Free, RSVP required.

This event is co-hosted by SFU's Vancity Office of Community Engagement, City of Vancouver - Cultural Services, and Music BC.

**please arrive 15 minutes early to secure your reservation. Any unclaimed seats will be released 15 mins prior to event start time.
