Event description

Description

Come spend the day with like-minded bakers learning about all things sourdough through a hands-on experience of building loaves of bread and creating your own pie with a sourdough pie crust -- utilizing all of the different characteristics that a healthy sourdough starter has to offer. You will be participating in mixing + shaping sourdough loaves and get to smell + taste some right out of the oven. We will discuss wild yeast, the benefit of fermenting flour, and how you can use and maintain your take-home starter. You will leave with some new-found knowledge and confidence to continue your sourdough baking adventures at home. At the end of our workshop, each student will go home with a recipe booklet, sourdough starter and instructions to keep it alive + well, 2 loaves of sourdough and a pie to bake at home in your own oven..making your house smell so homey and warm. Part way through our workshop, we will break for a liesurely hand-crafted lunch.

The Sourdough + Pie Experience is held in a quaint, one room school house nestled amongst the cornfields between Ancaster and Paris. The Langford Schoolhouse was built in 1896, and was fully operational until 1964. It possesses all the original charm of hard wood floors, tin tile walls, and even the old chalkboards used to teach lessons. The schoolhouse is currently being used for community events that focus on bringing farmers, newcomers, and like-minded people together. All Bake Lab workshop sizes are kept small -- a maximum of 8 Bakers which allows for plenty of one-on-one assistance and the chance to get all your questions answered.

Extra Info:
We will be on our feet for the workshop -- please wear comfortable footwear.
