Walker Environmental is inviting residents of Oxford County to participate in a workshop at the Colombo Club on Thursday October 13, 2016. The workshop aims to seek inputs from the public on 5 landfill topics for the proposed Southwestern Landfill.
Walker Environmental is currently undergoing the Environmental Assessment (EA) Process. In this phase of the EA, Walker is evaluating the alternatives (options) for the 5 landfill topics. Over the course of the summer, Walker has been consulting with the Community Liaison Committee (CLC) on these topics and is now looking for input from the broader public.
There are two workshop session; one in the afternoon at 3p.m. and one in the evening at 6p.m.
We understand that the discussion at the workshop will be technical. To ease the conversation, we encourage you to register to one of the workshop sessions so that we can send you materials for you to review in advance.
Five Key Landfill Topics for Discussion:
Landfill Footprint: The specific location and surface area on Carmeuse Lime Property.
Landfill Design: How the landfill will sit in the quarry (depth and height), including how the quarry will be lined.
Leachate Treatment: How leachate (water that touches waste) will be treated to remove contaminents.
Landfill Gas: How landfill gas will be collected and what will be done with it, including using it as a renewable energy source.
Haul Route/Site Entrance: which roads will be used and where the site entrance will be.
We encourage you to register in advance to reserve a spot and to receive the consultation materials in advance.
