Art materials, Settings and Expressive Languages

Facilitated by Roberta Pucci

This day will be spent thinking about the hundred languages, material, flexible ateliers and their possibilities – with a mixture of lecture, discussions and hands-on activities

Roberta will bring her Atelierista experience from working at Loris Malaguzzi Centre in Reggio Emilia and schools in Sweden, guiding us to think deeper about the hundred languages and the possibilities every-day materials offer. She provokes us to think beyond the idea of seeing the atelier as a segregated, out-of-reach space, seeing it instead as a space of engagement and dialogue within our own classrooms.

About Roberta Pucci:

Roberta Pucci is the founder of RobertapucciLab and an atelierista from Reggio Emilia, Italy. She has always been interested in the creative process: from the early 2000s, Roberta has held workshops and courses about the creative use of artistic, natural and recycled materials, especially for educators and teachers.

Her work is nurtured by three main areas of studying and professional background: the Reggio Approach, art therapy and the design thinking of Bruno Munari. She has spent the past seven years working as an atelierista in a preschool, in addition to one year at the Loris Malaguzzi Center of Reggio Emilia, with study groups from all over the world. Using this interconnected experience, she designs courses, books and creative tools to help every person or group express their unique potential, that naturally leads to a more active, authentic relationship with the environment and with others.

Roberta loves meeting people and different cultures, finding it of great inspiration.

Natural materials, Relationships and Receptive Languages

This day will be a reflection of our learnings about the hundred languages in relation to the outdoors: what does it look like to bring learning, creativity and explorations to outdoor environments?

Our well-loved speaker from last year's conference returns with her many years of experience in teaching and exploring pedagogy and play to inspire us in thinking about the hundred languages beyond indoor spaces. We will learn about the Pedagogy of Interdependence and will think about the Arts, Play, Risk-Taking and their unlimited possibilities.

About Suzanne Axelsson:

Suzanne has a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Sheffield, UK, where she focused on the relevance of the Reggio Emilia Approach in education today, language development, and pedagogical documentation as a tool for children and adults.

Suzanne works at Stockholm University teaching courses in the preschool teacher programme, and as a consultant in early years settings supporting educators with their democratic process. She also holds hands-on workshops with educators to explore how play is an essential language of learning, how to use philosophy with children, and how STEAM can be woven into play.

The Conference is taking place on Zoom. Both sessions will be recorded and available for viewing for registered participants.
