Description

This two-day workshop will introduce participants to key concepts, data types, and basic methods of spatial analysis in ArcGIS. Participants are not expected to have any experience working with GIS.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • understand key concepts and terminology related to GIS, spatial datasets and spatial analysis;
  • perform basic tasks in ArcGIS, including: visualising and exporting data layers, joining data between datasets, and selecting features by attributes and by location;
  • perform proximity analyses (e.g., identifying nearest features and creating buffers);
  • source and access publicly available spatial datasets;
  • work with raster data and the basic functions of the Spatial Analyst extension;
  • create map compositions for use in presentations, reports, and publications.
