Gustavo Carrero was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where he met Lama Ole and Hannah Nydahl in 1994. He moved to Canada in 1999 to start his PhD in Applied Mathematics and since then has been a member of the Diamond Way Buddhist Centre in Edmonton. In 2009, he met Karmapa Thaye Dorje and received teachings at the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute. He works as an Assistant Professor at Athabasca University and recently has been asked by Lama Ole to teach Buddhism.
Buddha’s highest teachings show that beyond thoughts and feelings, mind’s essence is joyful, fearless, compassionate space. To transform this concept into experience and take it from the head to the heart, we use meditation methods handed down from teacher to student.
Diamond Way Buddhism Calgary North is part of a network of meditation centers run by lay Buddhists, following the tradition of the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. All of our centers were founded by Lama Ole Nydahl, and are under the spiritual guidance of H.H. 17th Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje.
We meet every Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Bridgeland Community Center at 917 Centre Avenue, NE. Whether you are new to Buddhism or have meditated before, you are welcome to come along and practice with us!
