Women have always crafted fantastic stories and art alongside better known male counterparts. Some were in disguise and some wrote boldly in the open. Some wrote small essays and poems in pulp magazines, while others wrote towering works of genius, like Mary Shelley&#x27;s groundbreaking novel, Frankenstein. Women have been involved in all aspects of the creation of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Discover some of the trailblazing women of speculative fiction, including Mrs. Gaskell, James Tiptree Jr., Mary Shelley, and Mary Cavendish, the Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. These women and many others dreamed of spaceflight, riding dragons, creepy monsters and utopias.

Free. All are welcome.

Located in <a href="https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/merril/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">the Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Speculation and Fantasy</a>, on the 3rd floor of the <a href="https://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/lillianhsmith/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Lillian H. Smith Branch</a>.

The exhibit can be viewed during the Merril Collection&#x27;s open hours: Monday-Friday 10am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, closed on Sunday.
