Description

No matter how great the party is, we always find ourselves gathering around the kitchen. Food is where we find comfort, where we pass on our cultures, and where we nourish our bodies and souls. Let’s spend an evening together to peek into the future of our food and food cultures.

The July edition of Speculative Futures features a conversation on the benefits and challenges of industrial and local food systems and their impact on addressing food security with Elle Crevits.

Elle Crevits comes from a farm in southwestern Ontario where she learned from a young age the importance of working hard and eating well. It was in Kitchener, studying Peace and Conflict at the University of Waterloo, that Elle first discovered her passion for food, business, and social enterprise. She started a small social enterprise, Food Not Waste, to reduce food waste and try to address hunger in the community. Now in Ottawa, Elle works as a Program Lead for the Parkdale Food Centre, working with youth to create radical new ideas on how to change the food system and improve our neighbourhoods. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Management, Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Queen's University. Combining her passion for food and business, Elle has a small business that is helping people build a better relationship with food by teaching sourdough bread making workshops and inspiring people with new ways of thinking about food and the food system.

With the generous support from the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, we will end our evening by experiencing the future of food both as a consumer and a producer at the exhibition Edible Futures: Food for Tomorrow, curated by the Dutch Institute of Food & Design and presented by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
