Event description

Description

Are you a youth aged 11-14 interested in making movies? Sign up for a spring break program at the Library where you’ll use professional filmmaking equipment and work in teams to create a film around the theme of “Who Are You? Representing Your Story on Screen.”

You'll learn:

  • how to use your creativity to define the content, the style, and the tone of your video
  • how to hone your ideas into a clear message and story
  • how to nurture it into a script and translate it into storyboards

You’ll bring it all to life in images and sounds and edit it into a cohesive and compelling story! The last day will include a screening of the finished projects. Due to the importance of teamwork daily attendance is mandatory.

Lunch is not included. Participation release must be signed prior to start.

Space is limited.

Fee: $290
Financial assistance is available for North Vancouver District residents through the District of North Vancouver’s Youth In Film Program. Bursaries will be made available at the 50%, 75% or 100% level for any participant with a reference that can support their need, e.g. financial need, underrepresented community, disability.

Written Statement for Bursary Application

When you submit an application to participate by clicking the "Register" button, tell us why you would like to receive a bursary, explain how the bursary will support your interest in filmmaking and ensure you can attend when you otherwise could not.

After need has been established, bursary recipients will be chosen based on their written statement. We're looking for passionate, driven young artists who are willing to work hard to create fantastic art, and this bursary application should reflect that motivation. While previous experience will be considered, it is not in any way required. Rather, bursary applicants should make clear why they want to attend, and how we can extend the opportunity for community filmmaking in the District of North Vancouver through bursary support.

Personal Reference

When you submit an application for a bursary, please also provide the first and last name of a reference (e.g.: teacher, school counselor, youth worker, etc...). We will contact this person to determine bursary eligibility, so please only list someone who is aware of your application and, as a teacher or other related adult, can support your request for a free, 50%, or 75% space.

First review for bursary eligibility will be March 14. Applicants will be notified of the results shortly after.
