WORKSHOPS @ HSS - DESCRIPTIONS:


OPTION 1: POPEI Comprehensive K-3 Literacy Instruction

POPEI’s Teacher Consultant will offer practical tools and strategies for effective classroom practice and how to plan for inclusive literacy instruction.

Included will be:

  • an overview of a comprehensive, balanced literacy program that supports the core essentials of primary literacy development
  • strategies for designing your classroom environment, with routines and structures that support diverse learners
  • engaging and inclusive language activities that explicitly connect reading and writing with oral language development and the Core Competencies

The format of the workshop will include direct instruction, video demonstrations, mentor texts, and active participation.

*We will focus on English Language examples for K-3 classrooms, but French Immersion educators who are interested in the tools and strategies described above are certainly welcome!

OPTION 2: Are you using your Science Power?

Teaching the new Science Curriculum? No textbooks? No Teacher guides? Sea to Sky subscribes to ERAC’s BC Digital Classroom that includes 17 products. One of the World Book Online products – Science Power – targets Grade 3 – 6 Science.

As part of ERAC’s BC Digital Classroom, you have access for Grade 3 to 6 teachers to a wealth of Science lessons and resources aligned to the renewed curriculum.

Come learn how to access and use your district online databases. ERAC has just released a collection of over 100 K – 12 starting points to connect the revised and draft curriculum to digital resources available in BC classrooms. During this workshop we will identify the aligned resources for Grades 3 – 6 and will take a deeper dive into Science Power including its dual reading levels, flash lessons, experiment suggestions and critical thinking discussion questions.

Be prepared to login with support and explore the resources that support teaching Science for the renewed curriculum.

Presenter Bio:

Kevin is a Surrey teacher since 1995. During those years, he has taught in Secondary, Elementary and as a District Consultant supporting Information and Media Literacy for 126 sites. He has specialized working towards building understanding and capacity of Information and Media Literacy. Currently he is seconded supporting teachers province wide utilize licensed ERAC digital resources.

Kevin is passionate about sharing his learning journey with others and has presented numerous times at several local, regional, provincial and International conferences including CUEBC, NECC 2009, ISTE 2010,- 2014. He is a Google Certified Teacher, BC ERAC Professional Learning Team, one of Canada’s Apple Distinguished Educators and an Apple Professional Development Trainer.
