SSTA PD Committee's PD Day 2017: Monday, February 20 @ Howe Sound Secondary
Building Pathways for All Learners Through Collaborative Design with Leyton Schnellert
Leyton Schnellert is a community-based researcher who leads collaborative inquiry teams throughout British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. Schnellert has presented and published his research in local, national, and international forums and co-authored 6 books for educators including Developing Self- Regulating Learners (Pearson, 2016) and Student Diversity (Pembroke/Stenhouse, 2016, 3rd ed.)
In this Full Day workshop, teachers will learn how can we can make a difference for diverse learners while promoting equity, supporting inclusion, and achieving desired outcomes. See how change happens when educators engage in collaborative inquiry to learn about and from their students and bridge research and practice to support students in self-regulating their learning. Working with Dr. Schnellert you will have an opportunity to collaboratively plan units that are generative, inquiry-driven, and place-conscious. Come explore ways to support learning in classrooms that connect formative assessment, theory, practice, and context.
Participants will be able to:
Engage with underlying theoretical principles and conditions of responsive teaching
Build classroom learning communities that connect formative assessment, inclusive pedagogical practices and BC’s renewed curriculum.
We hope you can join us for this great day of learning with Leyton!
In addition, we have a Collaborative Learning/Self-Directed option for teachers who would like to collaborate on a learning project or work on a self-directed plan but would still like to network with their colleagues from all over the District!
