Event description

Description

For Good Productions in association with Empire Life Insurance Company and Erin Mills Mitsubishi present:

Stage a Breakthrough is a musical theatre performance with a reception to follow. The production is an original script with songs from musicals, as well as from other media. It was created to entertain audiences while opening a dialogue about mental health topics and encourage the de-stigmatization of mental illness. We want to present a thoughtful, nuanced and entertaining performance that will introduce or connect our audience to these topics, using means that feel comfortable and familiar.

Check out our trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViAvdQ-Yh9M&t=6s

The evening will also include a message from our partner, the Trauma Centre, a mental health clinic in Sharon, Ontario. The reception in the gallery space with a silent auction and art exhibit will occur following the performance Saturday evening and the Sunday matinee. Saturday evening will be our "Black and White Gala" which will include additional talks from our partners and light refreshments. Guests are encouraged to dress "Dressy Casual" or Semiformal.

With this project want to go further than talking about mental health.

We want to bring about tangible change.

Our goal is to raise $20,000 from the event to help create the Anxiety Groups for Youth program and help bridge the gap between private and public mental health services to begin a young person’s mental health journey. The unaided cost for an individual in the 8 week treatment program is $720, which corresponds to $90 per session.

We want to help lower these costs for families and make treatment more accessible. All proceeds from this event will directly support the creation of the Anxiety Groups for Youth program.

For Good Productions would like to advise audiences that the performance will discuss topics that may be triggering for some people. The topics discussed include: suicide, eating disorders, self harm, sexual harassment/assault, substance abuse and other mental health topics. Due to the mature nature of these topics For Good Productions is recommending that this production may not be suitable for children under the age of 12, however, we are trusting the discretion of parents to judge what is right for their own child.

If you have any questions or concerns with the content of this performance please do not hesitate to contact us at forgoodprods@gmail.com.
