Stargazing Party at the University of Waterloo
Wednesday, 13 August 2014 from 7:30 PM to 11:30 PM (EDT)
Everyone is welcome to join us for the stargazing portion of the evening ("Stargazing only" tickets). Space is limited for the lecture, however. Please bring your ticket.
Join Faculty of Science and Royal Astronomical Society of Canada astronomers to learn more about the Perseids meteor shower, and see how many meteors you can spot! Dr. Michael Balogh (Dept. of Physics and Astronomy) will give an introductory lecture "Meteors, Supermoons and Comets". This year's Perseid meteor shower peaks about a week after the Rosetta space probe arrived at its destination following a 10 year journey, and a few days after the largest full moon of the year lit up our skies. Dr. Balogh will describe the relationship between these three astronomical events, and explain how comets can teach us about the origin of our Solar System.
We'll move to the Columbia Fields for stargazing after sunset.
