Description

STATE OF OUR CITY/ FATE OF OUR CITY

This year, Sustainable Calgary celebrates its 20th anniversary, and we want to celebrate in the way we know best: conversation, knowledge sharing, and of course, great food.

This two day event will look at Calgary today and Calgary tomorrow. Over the last two decades, our city has taken a remarkable sustainability journey. While still considered by many as an “oil town”, we have seen a wide array of growth in sustainability initiatives. Over the course of this event, we want to explore with you: what is the fate / state of our city in the next 20 years?

Friday, November 30, 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Keynote Speaker: Julian Agyeman

Julian Agyeman is a renowned Professor of Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University. He brings an outside, global understanding of sustainability and will discuss how we can balance social, environmental, and economic factors.

Learn more about him and find information on his books and reports at his website https://julianagyeman.com/

Panel discussion to follow (stay tuned for updates on the exciting list of speakers!)

Doors open at 5:00, where food (included) will be served, and a cash bar will be available (serving local Annex Ales beer). Formal program begins promptly at 6:00 pm.

Tickets are $5.00

This is a no/low barrier event. Price should not be a deterant, and we will not turn anyone away. For other ticketing options, please contact katie@sustainablecalgary.org

Saturday, December 1, 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

Join us for a collaborative workshop where we will be looking at our updated State of Our City report and the 2005 Citizens Agenda.

We need your perspective as Calgarians: how are we doing as a city when it comes to energy use? Transit? Wellness, education, and governance?

Building on the information we gather and the content of the 2005 Citizens Agenda, we will work together to create an agenda of actions. What policies can we create to help us move towards a more sustainable city?

A delicious lunch and ample coffee will be provided!

Tickets are FREE!
