Join us during the week of July 22 for a combination Camp - Robotics Workshop in the morning and O-YA Camp activities in the afternoon!

Daily Camp Schedule:
8 am - 9 am; Drop off & Free Time
9 am - 12 pm; Robotics Workshop & Challenges
12 pm - 12:30 pm; Lunch
12:30 pm - 5 pm; O-YA Camp Activities

The goal of the workshop is to give participants the tools needed to be able to compete in robotics competitions. The workshop will focus primarily on the Ottawa Robotics Competition (http://www.orc.ieeeottawa.ca/en/) and will emulate the challenges that are part of that competition. The two main aspects of robotics (the construction of the physical robot and the programming of the robot to perform tasks) will be taught. LEGO Technic will be used to build the robot all LEGO Technic pieces will be provided by the workshop coordinators. The software used to program the robots will the drag and drop based interface developed by LEGO.

The Robotics Workshop is being taught by
Gabe Braden, a Grade 11 High School student in Beckwith and owner of Steampunk Robotics, and supervised by O-YA Youth Workers.

Robotics Workshop Notes

Items to be brought by participants:

  • Laptop (students without a laptop can be added to a group with a laptop if needed)
  • Mindstorms EV3 software will need to be installed. We will walk participants or parents through this process
  • Indoor shoes, a snack and lunch packed daily


If Gabe is unable to teach, his father (who will be attending the workshop for its entire duration) will proceed to teach the workshop. If a team is not able to compete the challenge in the tie designated to them, they will be given the choice to continue working on the challenge the next day, or move and leave the challenge uncompleted. There will be 3 campers per robot.
