Event description

Description

The 2019-2020 High School Big Data Challenge (BDC) enables students to develop skills in problem-solving, research and critical thinking with Open data while gaining exposure to the fundamentals of data science.

This year's theme is New Climate and Information Realities- from Oceans to Glass Water.

The BDC invites high school students from across Canada to analyze Open data relating to the consequences of global and micro-climate change in water and oceans for communities, energy generation, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and more. Your investigation will aid the Canadian Commission for UNESCO in successfully reaching their 2030 Agenda by addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including Clean Water and Sanitation, Climate Action, and Life Below Water. Teams will be provided with data sets, workshops, and tools for data analysis, and will complete their research projects over the course of three months, with the guidance of peer and expert mentors.

More information, including competition logistics, timeline, educational benefits, and prizes can be found here.
