StemCell Talks 2017
Fri, 10 March 2017, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM MST
Stem cell research has captured attention from the media with its regenerative properties as well as some controversial conversations. Stem cells are an exciting area for developing new therapies to improve health care around the world, but it has also brought with it ethical concerns.
This event discusses both the scientific and ethical aspects of stem cell research by two experts. Dr. Shirley, an Investigator at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, will discuss the clinical possibilities of stem cell research as well as a few projects she is working on. Mr. Blake Murdock, a Research Associate working with Mr. Timothy Caulfield, will discuss the ethics surrounding stem cell research and unproven stem cell treatments. We also have the pleasure of hearing the University of Alberta's own Dr. Adetola Adesida discuss his pioneering work in cartilage and meniscus repair. He utilizes a combination of 3-D printing and stem cells in his laboratory and will be discussing his translational research happening here in Edmonton! After these public lectures, there will be a dry reception where guests are welcome to mingle with and dicuss stem cell research and/or ethics with a few local stem cell scientists and experts, in addition to our two guest speakers. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn about the exciting world of stem cells!
Space Limited: Only 200 spots so sign up quick!
