Event description

Description

In this fast-changing world with an addiction to digital technology and social media, needle crafts provide a critical antidote to sooth our stressful lives by helping us to slow down and focus on creating, one stitch at a time. Fibre arts have been studied for their meditative qualities and a host of other benefits that spread to all areas of the human experience. By helping the next generation develop the skills to enjoy these creative pursuits, we help them develop so much more than just the ability to knit a sweater, we help them develop life skills that will serve them throughout their life such as patience, resilience, focus and mindfulness.

Marie Sternberg is a retired elementary teacher with a lifetime of experience helping students of all ages discover their passion for fibre and textile arts. She will be joining us to present a lecture style class focused on how we can leverage our skills and connect with our community to create the next generation of fibre artists, sharing the why, who, how and when to make it happen.

Marie shares with us her adventures in passing it on, the challenges she has discovered and her methods to overcome them. Whether you're a parent, family member, teacher or anyone else who wants to help a young person in your life develop an interest in fibre or textile arts, Marie will provide ideas to inspire you, and to help get you out there, get engaged and change the world, one stitch and one child at a time.

The team at KYAFF is bringing you this lecture included in your admission price, but you must book your tickets in advance.
