Event description

Description

Luminous storyteller, Anna Kerz, has been called “one of the treasures of the Canadian storytelling movement”. Her stories of growing up as an immigrant child in Toronto in the 50’s and 60’s, starting with a rooming house on Kensington Ave. at the edge of what was then known as The Jewish Market, touch the heart with their emotional depth, gentle humour, and wisdom.

Presented as a part of the 2018/19 Ottawa StoryTellers Signature Series.

Anna Kerz is an accomplished storyteller with a wide repertoire of folktales, myths, and literary tales that touch the heart and tickle the funny bone. She is known for her personal stories that deal with growing up in the 40’s 50’s and 60’s. Anna has shared her stories with listeners of all ages in schools, libraries, community gatherings, and festivals. She is a regular teller at Toronto’s 1001 Friday Nights of Storytelling.

As one of the developers of the StoryJam Program, Anna has worked in schools and community centers to help aspiring storytellers of all ages develop their speaking and presentation skills.

Anna is also the author of three novels for middle-grade readers. The books were chosen for the Hackmatack, Silver Birch, Diamond Willow and Rocky Mountain Book Awards. Better Than Weird was awarded the Toronto IODE book award and was chosen as a Notable Books for a Global Society Award.

Susanne Farrow has a degree in Music Education with a specialization in clarinet from Western University in Ontario. She has performed as a soloist and with community orchestras and bands as a clarinettist and on stage as an actor and vocalist in a variety of community theatre productions.

As an elementary school Music Educator for the Toronto District School Board, Susanne shares her musical passion with students through singing with a focus on Orff pedagogy and a band program. In addition, Susanne is a teacher-librarian as well as a visual artist with specialties in acrylics and collage.

Susanne is always thrilled to perform with her mom and share her love for music and story with the world.
