Event description

Bridgeway Academy is partnering with Keith Gelhorn, founder, and CEO of ADDvocacy ADHD & Life Skills Coaching Ltd and to deliver a 1.5 hour interactive workshop to discover strADDegies and funding opportunities to help youth with ADHD & LD's transition to Adulthood.

Bridgeway Academy is a registered charity that provides a day school program and outreach programs for students with LD or ADHD. Bridgeway has four locations throughout Nova Scotia; Yarmouth, Dartmouth, Truro and Stellarton. Bridgeway was started by a mom who was frustrated with the education her son with LD was receiving. She felt trapped in a system that didn’t seem to understand him or his needs. She knew he could learn, if only he was taught the way he learned best. She knew parents needed another choice.

Join Keith Gelhorn CEO @ ADDvocacy ADHD & Life Skills Coaching and special guests from local non-profits, government agencies and other interested parties (TBA) for an interactive presentation / Q & A session for students and parents on the topic of navigating the transition beyond grade 12.

Keith Gelhorn is the owner of ADDvocacy ADHD & Life Skills Coaching Ltd and ADDtext Inc.

Keith, a BC native, struggled through all levels of school labeled as “a student with potential if only he could apply himself.” In grade 12, his principal told him that "based on his performance at school, it didn't matter what he did in life, that he would always be a failure." In his 20's & 30's , he spent a total of 3 years on Employment Insurance, due to impulsively quitting jobs, butting heads with managers, frequent bouts of flash anger and not understanding the detriment of burning bridges At the age of 34, 1 year after acquiring his tickets as a Red Seal Journeyman Plumber & Gas Fitter, his life took on a whole new direction after a diagnosis of ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety and the 2.5 years of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that followed.

In 2012, after relocating to Nova Scotia to retrain as an ADHD coach, Keith launched ADDvocacy ADHD & LIfe Skills Coaching ( with a focus on proactively empowering youth and adults living with ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Autism / Aspergers, Executive Function Challenges and Co-Occurring Mental health Challenges in their transition to:

  1. High School

  2. Gap Year

  3. College/University

  4. Trade School

  5. Career Exploration

  6. Entrepreneurship

Keith also provides professional development training for educators, case workers, clinicians and employers on how to boost productivity and empower rather, than enable, this dynamic workforce.

Keith is also excited to launch his brand new program called "strADDegies for Success" - A 2.5-day workshop that focuses on equipping parents and youth (16-29) living with hidden disabilities with practical strADDegies to help ease their transition to post-secondary pursuits.

Learn about the tools, resources, and programming to proactively access accommodations both at school and in the workplace.

Did you know that there are up to $10,000 in grants available to post-secondary students through the Canada Study grants if you register for college, university or trade school as a student with a disability? We will also talk about Disability Tax Credits and RDSP's as well as additional federal funding opportunities, wage subsidies, and services to help youth succeed in adulthood.

Did you also know that if you are a college, university or trade school student with a disability, you can hire a coach from ADDvocacy to support you through your first full year of school and beyond, if you need it!

We currently coach 50+ students a week throughout Nova Scotia, Canada and beyond! We also coach youth and adults in career transition and entrepreneurs. This year we are expanding our reach by adding technology so we can work with youth anywhere in the country and on a global scale!
