Event description

Description

In any agency or brand, strategic planners are the hustlers who take tiny client asks and turn them into incredible ideas through big data, intensive research, and strategic insights. One of these hustlers is Jay Chaney, the outspoken current Chief Creative Officer at KOHO Financial and former Chief Strategy Officer from Cossette. As the brains behind unforgettable campaigns such as SickKids ‘VS’ and McDonald’s ‘Our Food Your Questions’, he knows a thing or two about how strategy can impact the return on creativity.

Join Jay as he draws on more than a decade of experience as a Strategic Planner to explore the very real benefits of focusing on creativity as both a client, and strategist, within an agency. He’ll also take you through the strategy behind the recently launched work from KOHO, as well as past award-winning work that has driven real business results and and helped him pick up a Cannes Lion (or 10). Through these examples, he'll explain why pushing for the best strategy possible can be the ultimate competitive weapon and the most rewarding experience of your career.

What Will You Learn:

  • An insider’s look at the world of strategy and planning

  • The surprising financial advantages of providing real creative opportunities

  • The ups and downs of gaining buy-in throughout the process

  • How clients and non-creative agency people can inspire creatives to get great work that's on strategy

  • How creativity can predictably deliver business results, but why it's so hard to buy into

Meet Jason Chaney:

Jay recently made the transition from the agency world to join Canada’s hottest fintech start-up KOHO. As the Chief Creative Officer, Jay will be developing the brand identity and communications to launch the company across Canada.

He joins KOHO from Cossette, where he was the Chief Strategy Officer and topped this year’s Creative Report Cards in Planning in Canada and ranked in the top 4 in the world in Adage. He is known for pushing the limits of advertising and redefining and championing the strategy and planning role in Canada. He has led the strategy on several internationally renowned and award winning campaigns; including, SickKids VS, Honey Nut Cheerios ‘Bring Back the Bees’, and McDonald’s ‘Our Food Your Questions’, which set a global standard for transparency in advertising. He has won 10 Cannes Lions and several international awards, including One Show, Clios and Effies.

A known challenger, Jay spends his time focused on reforming advertising practices and teaching aspiring strategists moving into the industry. He is currently the Chair of the Strategy track and teacher at the Miami Ad School in Toronto.

Doors open at 6PM and the talk will start at 7PM. Food and drinks will be provided.
