About the STREET DANCE MASTER CLASS

Mix Mix Dance Collective is outrageous, fierce and thoughtful in their investigation of diversity in movement, music and art practice. With a current Canadian take on street dance, the collective brings house out of clubs and on to the stage. The members of Mix Mix will bring you a house and footwork master class. Learn to groove, jack and skate to soulful house beats.

The artists of Mix Mix Dance Collective have been extensively training, performing, teaching and competing in various street dance forms for more than 10 years. They are now ready to share their love of these underrepresented dance forms with a wider audience. Taught by Ashley Perez and Emily Law.

DETAILS

Designed for beginner-level dancers, with an interest in street/urban dance forms/styles. Previous experience in street/urban dance styles is not required. Comfortable clothing for movement, including socks and sneakers/running shoes.

About EMILY LAW & ASHLEY PEREZ

Emily Law is a contemporary dancer, street dancer, and emerging choreographer. She graduated from The School of Toronto Dance theatre and has trained and competed in house dancing and waacking. Emily has been working as an independent dance artist for the past ten years. Her choreographic work has been showcased in festivals such as: The Next Stage Theatre Festival, Toronto Fringe Festival, CanAsian Dance Festival, The Reel Asian Film Festival and Guelph Dance. She has been nominated for a Gemini and 4 Dora Mavor Moore awards including outstanding performance by a women.

Training in funk styles and hip-hop, Ashley "Colours" Perez later specialized in voguing, waacking and house with mentors Archie Burnett (New York), Caleaf Sellers (New York), Jojo Zolina (Vancouver) and Kaiti Dangerkat (Calgary/New York) and Jose Xtravaganza (New York). Through the pursuit of her passions, moving to Toronto she immersed herself in the scene by performing in Manifesto, Rock.Paper.Sistaz Festival, Toronto Fringe Festival and The Next Stage Theatre Festival.
