STRONG ENOUGH: A 6-WEEK STRENGTH COURSE FOR BEGINNERS

About this Event

You know how it feels to walk into a gym and not know what the HECK is up. How do I use this machine? Why are the instructions so damn complicated? What’s that guy over there doing? Shit why is he looking at me now… UGH. GET ME OUT OF HERE.

It’s okay, I know the feeling. I got you. In the 6 week strength course, you’ll learn all the movements to get you into a strength training practice of your own and feeling confident doing it. With a dedicated group of 5 other newbies, we’ll start slow and build together.

Note: the class is located in a private studio which we will have to ourselves. This is a safe space away from what can be triggering gym spaces. The goal is to learn, explore new movements and build strength, never on weight-loss (no before/after pics, no scales, no bullshit). All bodies are welcome and celebrated.

This course is for you if you:

- You’re new to strength training

- Want to develop your own strength practice

- Want to feel confident during your work outs

- Want to walk into a weight room (or any room for that matter) and OWN it

What you’ll learn:

- Effective warm-ups and muscle activation

- Basics of strength training: hinge and squat form

- How to deadlift, including safe form and cues

- How to squat, including safe form and cues

- How to engage specific muscle groups to improve form

- Accessory exercises (such as core, upper and lower body strength)

- How to work within your physical limits (whether it be injury, chronic pain, mobility or ability related)

What you’ll leave with:

- Confidence and tools to start your own strength training

- A new community of fierce, inclusive fitness friends

- A 6-week strength plan to do at the gym or at-home, including a warm-up, progressions and space to track your progress and stay motivated.

Space is super limited – 6 participants maximum. A small class size ensures nothing and no one slips through the cracks. It fosters teamwork, community and all the high-fives!

Every Sunday from 11am-12pm

6 weeks: January 5th to February 9th

Training Spaces (567 College Street; west of Bathurst)

This course is inclusive of all genders, however priority safe space is given to womxn, non-binary and trans folks. Pronouns will be asked and respected by all. Inclusive, safe and welcoming space for 2SLGBTQ+. A single stall washroom is located on-site (no shower). Low music will be played throughout the classes. Low lighting will be used in class (no bright lights). Temperature will be around 72 degrees Farenheit. There are approximately 8 steps into the fitness facility. Body neutral language will be used.
