Students in Mind (SiM) 2019: Mental Health in Canada
Event Information
Description
In the spring of 2017, the National Health College Assessment found that 51% of students reported feeling hopeless; 87% felt overwhelmed; 40% “felt so depressed that it was difficult to function”; 61% “felt overwhelming anxiety”, and 10% had “seriously considered suicide.”
Do these statistics alarm you? Are you interested in making a change in the mental health culture on campus and in society? Do your part by joining the conversation at Students in Mind (SiM) 2019. Students in Mind is a mental health conference run by students, for students, aimed at raising mental health awareness and cultivating a mentally healthy, empathetic community through a day of interactive panels, engaging workshops and inspiring guest speakers.
Our goals for SiM 2019 are:
-
To promote and disseminate knowledge regarding mental health throughout the McGill community through panels and workshops;
-
To empower individuals by connecting participants to resources within and beyond the McGill campus;
-
To pioneer the change in stigma-ridden societal views on mental health through a host of events that highlight community engagement and individual empowerment.
Accessibility:
The Concordia University Conference Centre is wheelchair accessible, and there are elevators available for use. The nearest gender neutral washrooms on site are on the main floor near the elevators.
