Event description
July 30th - Live one-hour concert featuring 3 outstanding young artists

About this event

Come hear 3 special young artists on the Viola, Euphonium and Clarinet. Calvin had the privilege of adjudicating these three at a recent competition in Vancouver!

DAVIN MAR, VIOLA

Davin Mar is a grade 10 student at St. George’s School in Vancouver, Canada. He began playing the viola at the age of 4. Davin studied for many years with Manti Poon, and in 2019, joined the studio of Professor Marina Thibeault. He is a member of the Sequoia Quartet at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music. In 2018, Davin won the Junior Division of the American Viola Society Solo Competition in Los Angeles. Davin also plays in the Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, where he has been featured as a soloist. Aside from viola, Davin enjoys playing the trumpet and piano, keeping aquarium fish, and fishing. Davin would like to thank his inspiring teachers, and his family for their support in all his musical interests. Davin's musicianship is breathtakingly beautiful and his command of the instrument makes it seem like playing the viola is effortless.

TOMMY VO - EUPHONIUM

Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Tommy Vo is a Canadian euphoniumist currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of North Texas. Upon graduation, he will become the first Canadian to receive a Doctorate in Euphonium Performance. Tommy often performs with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and the Lone Star Wind Orchestra. As a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, he performs the Changing of the Guard on Parliament Hill every summer with the Band of the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa.

SAMUEL HE - CLARINET

Samuel is the winner of the 2017 Provincial Festival for senior woodwinds and a recipient of the prestigious British Columbia Graduate Scholarship. He (pun intended) attended the University of British Columbia for his Masters of Music and has recently won an audition with the Canadian Armed Forces reg-force bands and will begin his performing career in the near future. His primary teachers include Patricia Kostek, Jose Franch-Ballester, and Eric Abramovitz.
