Description

Dreaming of building your own tiny home one day? Curious about why so many are choosing to "live tiny", and what it can mean for your community? In between teaching his popular Tiny Home Design and Building Education Course in Victoria (June 15-17) and Shawnigan Lake (June 22-24), Kenton is making a stopover on the Sunshine Coast for a frank discussion about these popular alternative dwellings, including some of the common roadblocks tiny home owners encounter at the building and permitting stage.

We are also pleased to announce that we will be joined by local tiny house advocate/activist Pamela Robertson of Sunshine Tiny Homes to talk about the progress being made in the tiny house movement on the Sunshine Coast and the entire province!

Tickets are $25, cash at the door, and include a free, delicious beer from Persephone Brewing Co.!

The talk will be divided into two parts. Part I will address some of the following:
  • Pros and cons of tiny living
  • Types of tiny homes, and how to choose the right one for you
  • The basic “rules” of tiny homes, including sizes, lengths, and other limitations*
Part II will be an overview of local land-use and housing bylaws, and the tiny house movement in general with Pamela. This will be followed by a Q&A session with both Kenton and Pamela to address any remaining questions you may have. Seating is limited to 60 people. Please pre-register now (no payment required) to us know you're coming. Thank you!

Organized by Tiny House Courses BC (www.tinyhousecoursesbc.com), in partnership with KZ Permaculture (www.kzpermaculture.ca) and Sunshine Tiny Homes (https://www.sunshinetinyhomes.com/) these talks are also an opportunity to build community and join forces with others who are working towards the necessary bylaw changes to allow tiny homes in Vancouver Island municipalities. “There are many communities across Canada making great strides in the conversation around how we house and grow our communities sustainably, and I’m glad that tiny houses are finally part of the dialogue as a potential solution,” says Zerbin.
