This workshop discusses strategies for supporting children who have experienced grief and loss. Loss may include the death of a loved person, or pet, moving to a new place or into foster care, the separation or divorce of the child’s parents, or any other loss that feels significant to the child.
Participants will be provided with ways to identify sadness or anxiety (related to loss) in children, as well as strategies to offer comfort and reassurance. A brief description of beliefs about death in major religions will be included. Ideas for talking about grief and loss in a child care setting, as well as when and how to talk to parents about these topics will be discussed.
Facilitator: Tanya Hoover (MSW, RSW, CPT, ECE II). Tanya recently returned to Family Dynamics part-time as a Behaviour Support Coordinator after 5 years away. During those years, she stayed home with her young children, Leo and Mira, and also had a private play therapy practice.
