Green Calgary Sustainability Series Presents:
Water Wise Gardening for Beginners
Green Calgary presents Cathy Kurio from the Calgary Rock & Alpine Garden Society – aka CRAGS! – in a workshop that will cover the essentials of planning a water wise yard and garden in Calgary.
This workshop will include a lecture, hands-on component designing a water wise garden bed, and a tour of yards in the neighbourhood that are practicing water wise gardening. You will learn:
- How to choose plants that will grow well in Calgary
- Examples of plants that will grow well in Calgary
- Ideas for planning your yard & garden
- Xeriscaping & rain gardens
- Rain water harvesting
During the summer months our water consumption often doubles in Calgary as we try to keep our yards and gardens fresh and green. Learn how to plan your yard to maximize biodiversity and minimize water consumption while still maintaining a beautiful, green, and luscious space!
Bring a photo of an area in your yard or garden that you would like to transform and Cathy will provide tips designing the space into a beautiful and sustainable area!
