Event description

Description

Join us for an informative and interactive evening at the Tofino Resort + Marina and learn how to harvest marine resources in a sustainable and ethical manner!

Speakers from the Ucluelet Aquarium, Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council Fisheries, and Department of Fisheries and Oceans will share information about prey choice, seasonality, and community pressures - all important considerations to ensure our valued catches will be here for generations to come. If you are curious and excited about fish id tools, sustainable harvesting choices, and the life histories of the many organisms we love to eat, come learn with us!

  • Species identification, biology & ecology - Ucluelet Aquarium

  • Traditional and current Nuu-chah-nulth harvesting practices and lessons - Uu-a-thluk (taking care of)

  • Licensing, legalities and open question period - Department of Fisheries and Oceans
