Sustainable Oceans is an annual student oceans conference led by the Master of Marine Management Students of the Marine Affairs Program, Dalhousie University. In its sixth year, this is the only student-led oceans conference in Atlantic Canada.

Program Overview (Draft):

  • 5:30-6:00pm Registration
  • 6:00-6:20pm Welcoming remarks
  • 6:20-6:40pm Presentation of Sobey Fund for Oceans Scholarships
  • 6:40-7:50pm Keynote Address – Dr. Julia Baum – University of Victoria*
  • 7:50-7:55pm Closing remarks
  • 7:55-8:35pm Reception

*About the keynote: Keynote speaker Dr. Julia Baum is an accomplished marine ecologist, conservation biologist, and Associate Professor based out of the University of Victoria in BC. One of her most recent accomplishments includes being a Pew Fellow in Marine Conservation in 2017. Her current research program focuses on understanding how human disturbances, ranging from overfishing to climate change, are impacting marine ecosystems and how we can ensure the persistence of healthy marine ecosystems over the long-term.

The conference is free and accessible to all who are interested in learning more about the oceans and becoming engaged in marine conservation and stewardship.
