Description
Sustenance Storytelling Feast & Exhibit
The Storytelling Feast and Exhibit is a highlight of this year’s Sustenance Festival, featuring:
- Community leaders sharing the stories of their recipes and their work
- An exhibit and community tables highlighting Vancouver-area food, culture and justice initiatives
- A shared meal to celebrate the rich and diverse food traditions across our city
The journeys and flavours of our most beloved dishes tell the story of a city and its people. This event celebrates the power, creativity and resilience of our neighbours. In a time of fragmentation, it is through the sharing of food and stories that we find connections across and within our communities.
Featured storytellers (and recipes provided by)*:
- Atsumi Hashimoto
- Hasne Sheikh & Raghda Hassan
- Mara Shnay
- Margaret Mubanda
- Mekdes Gete
- Natividad "Tivi" López
- Senaqwila Wyss
* The feast menu is faithfully adapted from the storytellers' traditional recipes. This includes vegan and vegetarian dishes. While there will be a plentiful range of eating options, we regret that dietary restrictions cannot be accomodated for every dish. No peanuts will be used, and all ingredients will be clearly labelled.
This event takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded homelands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil Waututh) Nations.
