Event description

Description

This recital is part of the RCCO 2018 Calgary Organ Festival.

This is a choral ensemble from the University of Lethbridge that specializes in the music of Hlidegard von Bingen. The recital will be presented in the Labyrinth Room at Knox United Church as it is the perfect place both visually and acoustically for such a concert. Be prepared for a wide-ranging concert that begins with the music of long ago and ends in the modern era.

The recital offers a program rooted in medieval text and chant that travels into the modern era. The ensemble presents a sequence and responsory by Hildegard von Bingen, shares improvisational Aquitanian works and delights in the polyphonic arches of Morales and Victoria. Marian texts set by Duruflé and Poulenc are contrasted with works by Buffy Sainte Marie and contemporary settings of Rumi. The concert closes with a rousing setting of Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
