Description

CLF's Annual Symposium

Tensions seem to be growing in Canada between public actors seeking to further certain moral goals, and private citizens who wish to maintain dissenting, but lawful, viewpoints. These tensions raise important questions about how we accommodate differences in a free and democratic society. Hear from some of Canada's leading legal scholars and practitioners on these and other timely issues at CLF's 2nd Annual Symposium on Religion, Law & Human Rights.

About the Symposium

CLF’s second annual Religion, Law & Human Rights Symposium will host academics presenting scholarship focused on religious freedom, state neutrality, and related topics. This event takes place in conjunction with Christian Legal Fellowship's 2018 National Conference at the Inn at the Quay.

The Symposium will especially be of interest to lawyers and academics who practice/research in the areas of civil litigation, constitutional law, public law, administrative law, human rights law, charity law, and tax law, among other areas of practice. It will also be of interest to religious organizations, educational institutions, and those who work in government and public policy.

Publication

Papers presented at the Symposium will be selected for publication in a special collection in the Supreme Court Law Review published by LexisNexis Canada. A copy of the publication will not be included in the registration price; however, we will keep you apprised of publication details. Last year’s Symposium also generated a special volume of the Supreme Court Law Review, as well as a standalone book, Assisted Death, both published by LexisNexis Canada.

Registration

Registration includes three categories: (1) non-member registration ($80), (2) CLF member registration ($70), and (3) student registration ($35). The full-day registration includes a continental breakfast, deli lunch, and complimentary light reception. The discounted rate for students is limited; be sure to sign up today!

Schedule

The Symposium will begin at 7:00am with a continental breakfast and registration. The formal program will begin promptly at 7:45am. The Symposium will conclude with a feature presentation from the Hon. John (Jack) Major (retired Supreme Court of Canada judge). Registration to the Symposium includes a complimentary registration to attend this reception, which will also serve as the opening program of Christian Legal Fellowship's 2018 National Conference.
