Symposium on Teaching in the age of Artificial Intelligence

Online event

Overview

Join us online to explore how AI is changing teaching and learn cool new strategies for the classroom!

We are excited to announce the upcoming symposium, “Teaching in the Age of AI: How to Effectively Balance Mental Health, Technology, Ethics, and Meaningful Engagement in Teaching and Learning” an interdisciplinary gathering that explores the transformative impact of artificial intelligence as a technology in higher education and the ways in which it can help mitigate mental health. The evolution of AI technologies is rapidly reshaping ethical teaching and learning while simultaneously expanding our understanding of mental health in classroom settings. This is impacting how we teach, how students and educators experience learning environments while adapting to technology that is evolving on a daily basis. These shifts bring both opportunities and challenges, especially around questions of power, equity, ethics, and mental well-being. In a time when anxieties around automation and algorithmic influence are high, it is crucial to move beyond fear-based narratives and engage in thoughtful, critical, and hopeful conversations about the future of teaching and learning. In this regard, this symposium recognizes the role of anxiety as a necessary ethical demand in technologically changing how we think and act teaching and learning to enhance mental health.

This symposium invites educators, researchers, technologists, students, practitioners, and administrators to examine how AI is altering and reshaping classroom dynamics, curriculum design, work interactions, and institutional cultures in ways meant to enhance mental health of both the learners and educators. Equally important, we will explore the mental health implications of this shift for students, faculty, and staff navigating new modes of learning and faculty adapting to changing expectations and workloads.

We welcome submissions that explore theoretical, empirical, and practice-based perspectives on:

  • The pedagogical and ethical implications of AI in higher education
  • AI Policy and governance in higher education
  • Use of AI to support neurodiverse identities
  • Impact of AI on mental health, teaching, and learning
  • Accessibility in higher education (access to information, authenticity of sources, etc)
  • Equity, power, and access across different sectors (education, social work, non-profits, etc.)
  • AI tools and platforms as educational or practical tools to mitigate redundancy or time-consuming tasks
  • Innovations in teaching and learning that leverages AI
  • Assessment and evaluation techniques in the age of AI
  • Use of AI for data-driven decision-making
  • Interconnections between AI, sustainability, and digital footprint
  • Neoliberalism and AI in teaching and learning

This is not just a conversation about technology. It is a call to critically reflect, reimagine, and co-create a future where innovation and care in teaching and learning go hand in hand. Join us in this timely and necessary dialogue!
