Synapse Family Camp Fall 2019

All Synapse families and staff are invited to Family Camp!

A tradition since 2012, Synapse Family Camp is an opportunity for the entire community to unplug from our everyday lives and enjoy the great outdoors with each other. It's a time to connect, relax, play, and explore nature. For our kids, it's a chance to learn more about themselves as they navigate a largely unstructured and natural environment with few demands on how to behave or what to do.

Immersive forest experiences are scientifically proven to have numerous health benefits like reduced anxiety, improved mood and concentration, better immune function, and faster healing. However, children and adults are sometimes uncomfortable being away from the convenience of their own home, soft beds, central heat, regular schedules, and restaurant meals. This discomfort reminds us of the privileges of modern living and fosters gratitude for what we have. An intentional practice of "roughing it" is a wonderful opportunity for children and adults alike to grow skills of resiliency and independence. Being out in nature also helps develop an empathic connection with the environment and raises awareness for stewardship of the land.

To cultivate our children's grit, social skills, and nurture their love of nature, Family Camp is an attempt to return to the basics when it comes to accommodations, meals, modes of transportation, and human connection. In our modern day lives, it's rare that we can provide such opportunities for ourselves and our children. It's also just an incredible joy to deeply bond with others in our community in a low stress, low tech, human to human level. We hope that you will take advantage of the two Family Camps (Fall and Spring) each year!

Camp Jobs!

Many hands make light work! As Family Camp continues to grow, so does the work involved in making the weekend a success. We ask that all families contribute to the weekend by signing up for a camp job. Thanks in advance for helping to make this a true community effort.

Pricing...

To help facilitate planning the weekend, we encourage everyone to sign up as soon as possible (like, right now)! This year we are offering an "Early bird" pricing option to encourage early registration. For those who wait to register, the pricing will go up nominally, but perhaps more importantly, if you wait, others will have already signed up for all of the "best" jobs!
