Event description
What is SYNERGY: 2020? A mental health conference by students, for students - and all those who work with them.

About this Event

syn·er·gy

/ˈsinərjē/ noun

the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations, substances, or other agents to produce a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects.

What is mental health? A state that underlies everything and affects everyone…

...So why do we keep our conversations so limited?

SYNERGY: SiM 2020 is happening January 18, 2020 to expand the breadth and depth of mental health discourse. Through engaging speakers, hands-on workshops, and innovative collaboration sessions we will explore the various domains of mental health, the areas in which we can intervene, and the ways that we can each harness our strengths and passions to create change.

Whether you are new to the mental health conversation, have faced mental health difficulties of your own, or are a seasoned advocate for the topic, SYNERGY: SiM 2020 is your chance to create a day of finding your role and forging your path toward a mentally healthy community.

Register now and join us in building a mentally healthier community.

Lunch and snacks will be provided!

The venue of our SiM 2020 conference is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the St. Lawrence Iroquoians, Mohawk, Huron-Wendat, and Haudenosaunee nations. Students in Mind honours, recognizes and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which we meet today. Just because some of us have not been faced with certain issues does not mean they are not happening; we must bring up these circumstances for greater public awareness and actively oppose systems of oppression. It is not enough to just acknowledge these struggles: we must ensure that we are educated about such matters and put meaning to them in hopes of stepping towards an equitable and mutually respective relationship.

ACCESSIBILITY:

The Kin-Coworking Space is wheelchair accessible, and there are elevators available for use. To get to our venue, take the green line metro until station Place Des Arts and walk around 350 meters (5 minutes) to arrive at our site. Gender neutral washrooms will be available and indicated onsite.

To maximize financial accessibility, there is a pay-as-you-can option offered -- please email studentsinmind.finance@gmail.com for more information.

We encourage all who attend our events to refrain from using scented products in consideration of those with sensitivities.

The conference will be run in English and no whisper translation will be offered.

Babysitting services are not available on site.

If you have any questions or suggestions, or if there are any ways we can make participating in this event more accessible for you, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at studentsinmind.communications@gmail.com.
