Systems and Strategies for Effectively Support of Multiple Committees, with Shelagh Donnelly

About this event

Systems and Strategies for Effectively Support of Multiple Committees, with Shelagh Donnelly

- 75 minutes; templates provided with recording

Does it sometimes feel as though you're on a never-ending treadmill? Do you find yourself recording a meeting one day and then spending the rest of the week working through competing demands before you even think about polishing those minutes?

Or is your primary challenge one of securing all the submissions and supporting materials for agenda packages in a timely manner?

While meetings represent just one element of an assistant's responsibilities, it's a key element. Your capacity to produce accurate, effective agendas, agenda packages and minutes in a timely manner impacts perceptions and your professional reputation.

When you support more than a couple of bodies, the challenges are multiplied as you’ll likely face competing priorities. Shelagh spent a decade supporting a board and a roster of what ultimately became five committees. To keep her head above water and maintain credibility, she developed and introduced systems and practices that helped her stay on top of her workload. These also had positive impacts for stakeholders who participated in meetings, and for those responsible for producing deliverables for board agenda packages.

We’ll review concepts and templates you may want to consider raising with your Chairs, and strategies for influencing readiness to change practices. Whether you record meetings for one body or a handful of them, these are practices you can adopt or modify to help you become increasingly efficient.

Key learning objectives

1. Efficiencies: systems and templates to help you schedule and produce deliverables in a timely manner

2. Communicating and collaborating effectively with multiple chairs and stakeholders

3. How to assert and prioritise your needs in order to get the job done

Templates for you to download

Organizer Shelagh Donnelly, Exceptional EA

Organizer of Systems and Strategies for Effectively Supporting Multiple Committees

The best assistants are always learning, through experience and by engaging in professional development. While plans for a number of conferences and other in-person learning opportunities have been postponed, that needn’t put a pause on your professional growth.

In fact, given the way 2020 continues to unfold, it may be more critical than ever to continue to connect, learn and adapt. Shelagh's adapting as well, and is offering webinars focused on how to navigate and succeed during these interesting times.

Investments in quality and yourself

When you attend Shelagh's webinars, you’re investing in quality and in yourself.

It’s astute to take advantage of complimentary webinars you may find helpful; Shelagh has delivered and attended some herself. There are limitations, though, on the depth of professional development that can be acquired without financial investment.

That’s why it’s also astute, given post-pandemic changes and challenges ahead, to invest in learning from someone who’s walked the walk for decades, and done so during times of not only growth, but also upheaval and recession. Someone who knows what it’s like to be an on-call employee as well as having been a direct report to four CEOs and having supported board chairs, which was Shelagh's last role before turning to speaking and writing full time in 2019.

Post-event access to webinar recording

You’ll have access to a recording of the webinar for a 30-day period after the live event. This can come in handy if you’d like to review a concept, and if time zones or people throw your schedule for a loop the day of a webinar.

Certificates of attendance

After attending, you’ll receive a certificate of attendance to add to your portfolio and help track your professional development. Such records are also useful when preparing for performance reviews/evaluations.
