About this event

Table Saw 101 is an in-depth look at the many uses of the table saw, including safety and maintenance. Learn all about this very powerful and useful tool including:- How to change the blade- How to zero the blade- How to align the fence- How to align the riving knife- Dado, rabbet, mitre cuts, and bevel cuts- Reviewing how the SawStop works- Using different types of blades (crosscut, rip, plastic, metal)- How to cut large sheets of wood safely- Working with different types of materials (ie. MDF, 2x4s, plywood)- How to make a Lap Joint- Kerf Bending- Using Sleds and Jigs- Making cross cuts and using the Cross Cut Table Saw

Members and drop-in members must take this orientation if they would like to use the crosscut table saw (the second table saw).

Students must complete WoodLab 101 prior to taking this class.

We require that students must bring their own safety glasses or they will be available for purchase at the front desk for $5

Please note, due to COVID-19, the following measures are now in place for this class:

  • It is recommended that everyone sanitize their hands upon entering the building.

Duration: 4 Hours

Required Pre-requisite: WoodLab 101

Equipment Access: Table saw and Cross-cut table saw

Safety Requirements:

  • Safety glasses
  • Particle filter mask or dust mask
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • Remove dangling jewelry
  • Tie back long hair 

Safety Recommendations:

  • Hearing protection (provided)


Is there an age limit to enter the event?

The minimum age for participants is 13 years old with a participating guardian or 18 otherwise. 

What are my parking options at MakerLabs?

MakerLabs' parking lot is located on the east side of the building on the corner of Hawks Avenue and East Cordova Street.

Can I sign up for the member rate?

If you sign up for a membership on the day of the class, you'll receive a refund for the difference between the general and membership class price.

How do I cancel or reschedule my class?

Refunds (minus Eventbrite fees), credits for future classes and orientations, or transferring a ticket to a future date, will only be provided if we are notified by email to at least 24 hours in advance of the class. For cancellation less than 24 hours before the class, we do not provide a refund, but we do offer a 50% credit towards a future class or orientation. No refunds or credits will be provided for no shows. If transferring a ticket to a future class date, students may only transfer their ticket once before forfeiting their original ticket, even if providing more than 24 hours notice.

What happens if I show up late?

Please arrive 15 minutes before the schedule start of the class so that it can start on time. Attendees arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed in the class.
