Description
Tackling Child Poverty in BC: Every Child Fed, Clothed and Ready to Learn
One of every seven children in BC is living in poverty and two-thirds of them live in Metro Vancouver.
How can the foundations of social development, health and learning in early childhood be strengthened? What are the social and economic benefits associated with better investment in early childhood development? What can policymakers, civil society organizations, businesses, parents, youth and other citizens do ensure that every child is ‘fed, clothed and ready to learn?’
Please join us for an evening of dialogue to raise awareness about child poverty in BC—an issue that falls to all of BC’s citizens to address. Together, we can move beyond defining the problem and begin to strategize possible solutions.
Our panelists include:
Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Children and Family Development
Bruce Ralston, Opposition Critic for Finance and Public Accounts, BC NDP
Carrie Gelson, Teacher, Seymour Elementary School
Paul Kershaw, Associate Professor, UBC
Date: May 6, 2013
Location: SFU's Goldcorp Centre for the Arts at Woodwards, Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema, 149 West Hastings Street
Time: 7:00 - 9:00pm
The dialogue will be followed by a reception in the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, World Arts Centre.
This event is free of charge, but please register here.
