Description

Community Ethics Network Hub and Spoke logo

The Community Ethics Network’s Fall Conference focuses on two topics that are often avoided in interactions between clients and providers. Both topics have become more complex recently. In addition to the ongoing challenge of unequal access to high quality end-of-life care, last year's legalization of assisted dying prompted new realities for us and our clients. The topic of drug use is now part of our daily work, especially with next year's planned legalization of cannabis as well as the ongoing opioid crisis.

The morning panel discussion will explore the experience of those working with clients who are dying and the ways we can all promote quality end-of-life care. We will have the perspectives of those who work with people who are homeless, who have degenerating conditions and more acute terminal illnesses.

In the afternoon, we will examine the ethical issues related to the forthcoming cannabis legislation and the opioid crisis – especially the prevalence of prejudicial and discriminatory attitudes toward people who use drugs.
