Event description
To work in a “helping profession” requires us to take care of self yet so many helpers are not the best at focusing their energy on self.

About this Event

Helping people with their career path is hard work! So many things can cause challenges for people as they try to find and pursue their career dream and while it can be incredibly fulfilling and meaningful work to help people with their challenges, it can also be exhausting, disillusioning, frustrating, and discouraging. To work in a “helping profession” requires us to take care of self yet so many helpers are not the best at focusing their energy on self. This interactive session will talk about how career development professionals can include a focus on their own personal well-being while still maintaining their high standards of work. Topics to be addressed include connecting with clients, engaging in self-care, setting boundaries, and strategies for managing stress.

David Ness is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Student Counselling Centre at the University of Manitoba, where he has worked since 1991. David’s training background is clinical psychology and he works with people presenting with a variety of difficulties including career indecision and other career related challenges. He enjoys connecting with professional communities and is looking forward to working with us.
