Event description
Everyone has the right to live in dignity and safety - in a place of sanctuary.

About this Event

This federal election has been a tumultuous one for migrant rights and racial justice. From anti-immigration billboards to #blackfacetrudeau, there is much work clearly to be done. And with the rise of the far right globally, Canada has certainly not been immune to these movements gaining ground. The federal election looms on October 21, and we worry: What does this election mean for refugees, immigrants and others on the move?

Join us for a conversation with Jamie Liew, professor of law at University of Ottawa. She is an immigration and refugee law expert, migrant rights advocate and political commentator who will take the pulse of this election. Professor Liew will offer her analysis of what the parties have promised, what that means for migrant rights, and where we go from here.

Ottawa Sanctuary Network is a collective of activists, academics, migrants and members of our community who believe in status for all and oppose discrimination on the basis of immigration status in the provision of services. Sanctuary City Ottawa is the campaign to make Ottawa a sanctuary city.
