Go behind the scenes at the world's major art museums with Rosalind Pepall, member of the CSDA-CCAD and past curator at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art in Exchange with Dr. Rachel Gotlieb, curator and writer who specializes in ceramics, decorative arts, craft, and design.

Rosalind Pepall, who began her career as a curator over 30 years ago, will share stories of her favorite career moments found in her book "Talking to a Portrait: Tales of an Art Curator" with Dr. Rachel Gotlieb on Zoom video conference. The focus of the talk will be on decorative arts objects that Pepall selects with interesting details about various artists’ lives and works that are personally meaningful to her.

The event is free to members of the CSDA-CCAD and the general public. For donations of $50 or more you will receive a complimentary copy of Talking to a Portrait book. A tax receipt for the taxable value will be issued. Contact: Gilles Latour at gilleslatour@csda-ccad.org for more details.

Biographies

Former Senior Curator of Decorative Arts at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Rosalind Pepall has been responsible for a wide range of exhibitions, publications and conferences for over thirty years, including Ruhlmann: Genius of Art Deco (2003-2004), in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, N.Y. and the Musée des Anneés 30, Paris, and Tiffany Glass: Colour and Light (2009-2010), presented in Paris, Montreal, and Richmond, Virginia. More recently, she co-edited Decorative Arts and Design: The Collection of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (400 pages), published in 2012, and Ms. Pepall continues to serve as a consultant, conference speaker and writer in the field of art.

Dr. Rachel Gotlieb has curated over twenty exhibitions and published extensively on design and craft. Her work has received awards from the Canadian Museums Association, Ontario Association of Art Galleries and Craft Ontario. Since 2015, she has taught design history at Sheridan College. She is also adjunct curator at the Gardiner Museum where she was previously Chief Curator and Interim Executive Director. She is the founding curator of the Design Exchange, Canada’s former design museum.
