Event description

Description

Join us Saturday September 15, 2018 for our 1910s Tango Tea. We have been fortunate to secure internationally known vintage dance expert Richard Powers and his partner Kimber Rudo coming from San Francisco to demonstrate and teach World War I dances at the event. An introduction level course for the One Step will be taught at 10 a.m. and at 11 a.m. an introduction to the Foxtrot (as it was danced in the 1910s.) At 2 p.m., enjoy high tea while viewing or participating in the dance, as well as music, songs, recitations, and silent films, but beware -- some suffragettes might crash the party!

Tickets are $50.00 for the tea, and $25.00 per person per dance class. Tickets for the tea portion of the event are free for our Couture level members. All tickets include free admission to the Fashion History Museum for the day.

FAQs

Do you have a Sponsor Hotel?

Yes, Homewood Suites by Hilton Cambridge at 800 Jamieson Parkway is offering a special rate of $149 plus taxes per night for guests at our event, but you must book by August 1st and say you are coming to the Fashion History Museum's Tango Tea!

I have a friend who can come at the last minute - will tickets be available at the event?

Possibly, but the sooner you know, the better it is to ensure we have time to let our caterer know to put on the kettle for more tea!

Do I have to be a Dancer to take the Classes?

Not at all! The classes are intended to give you a 'leg up' on the event to enjoy the style of social dancing during the 1910s. All are welcome to join, no matter what your level of experience.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

As there is no alcohol being served, there are no age restrictions. If you have purchased tickets in advance please bring a copy to check in at the Reception Desk of the FHM.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Lots of street parking on Queen Street East, but your best bet is parking at St. Andrews Church, 73 Queen Street East, kitty corner across the street from the FHM! If you are flying in for the event (and we know several people are) there is an airport in Waterloo just minutes away from the FHM. VIA rail has a train station in Kitchener or Guelph - please contact them directly for trip planning.

What can I bring into the event?

Most of all, you can bring the anticipation of having a wonderful time!

If you have the inclination to wear a costume from the 1910s, we'd love to have you share your ensemble for making the event all that more special! We'd also love to take photos of you to share on social media if you are up for that... No pressure! There will be time between the classes and the Tea itself to change clothing if you wish...

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Feel free to send us an email to info@FashionHistoryMuseum.com or call 519-654-0009, leave a message and we will return your call as soon as possible.
