Event description

Description

Tartuffe is an old French comedy (written in 1664) but its wit and insight are timeless. Orgon’s household is thrown into turmoil when he invites a vagrant posing as a pious clergyman to live with them. Orgon and his aging mother fall completely under Tartuffe’s spell, but the rest of the family see through him. When Orgon tells his daughter Marianne that he will marry her off to the fraud, they enlist the help of the maid Dorine to expose him. The play was controversial because of fear that it might make people suspicious of genuine piety and religious authority. It remains a sharp warning today of the danger of confusing false virtue for the real thing.

Adapted from Moliere by Brian Paisley and Ti Hallas

Directed by Aaron Krogman and Designed by Daniel vanHeyst

Cast and Crew are students of the Drama program at King’s, with a special guest appearance by King’s faculty member Dr. Remkes Kooistra as Tartuffe.
