Description

This year, the TDSA will be hosting a Housing Forum focusing on the need for 5% of housing developments to be dedicated to individuals with a developmental disability. There will be 6 presentations from community members engaged in areas of housing and developmental services.

  • 9:00am - 9:30am, Meet and Greet

  • 9:30am - 12:30pm, Panel Presentations (20-25 minutes per presentation with a break)

  • 12:30pm - 1:00pm, Lunch*

  • 1:00pm - 2:00pm, Q&A for Presenters

Speakers:

Shay Johnson – Housing Navigator, Toronto Developmental Services Alliance

  • Update on TDSA Housing Sub-Committee work for this year, summarize outcome of 2017 Housing Forum, review of the TDSA website


Bryan Keshen –President & CEO, Reena & Member of the TDSA Housing Sub-Committee

  • Why the message of advocating for 5% of new affordable housing be designated specifically for people with a developmental disability is so significant


Michele McMaster - Toronto Affordable Housing Consultant/ Affordable Housing Client Solutions, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation

  • Update on any upcoming funding/housing-related opportunities through the National Housing Strategy


Erik Hunter Manager of Policy and Partnerships, Affordable Housing Office (AHO), City of Toronto

  • Provide information on affordable housing options throughout the City, working with non-profit sector for more access to housing for people with a developmental disability


Alexandra Shannan – Service Navigator/Housing Coordinator, Developmental Services Ontario Toronto Region

  • Update on the Housing Toolkit the DSO is creating, as well as any other work in progress for the DSO Housing Coordinators


Jacob Cohen– Vice President of Project Implementation, The Daniels Corporation

  • Will speak to The Daniels Corporation commitment to building affordable social housing, experience in partnering with non-profits and what housing developers need from non-profit service providers
